Alterations and refurbishment to University of Aberdeen’s Medical Physics building
In March 2023, Burns Construction were delighted to be awarded with the alterations and refurbishment of the Medical Physics building to provide an operational location for The University Aberdeen’s Medical Imaging Department.
Works involved an extensive refurbishment of two floors and included demolishing existing partitions for new lab layouts to house five new scanners.
This refurbishment resulted in the UoA having the largest low-field MR technology platform ever built with about 900m2 of lab and office space.
In addition, new partitions were installed to form new MRI scanning rooms, operating rooms, and changing rooms. Existing labs were converted into new offices, existing toilet areas were refurbished, and partitions were taken down to form a new open-plan common areas.
An extensive M&E fit-out was also undertaken, with services supplied to specialist lab equipment. New suspended ceilings were installed throughout with decoration and new floor coverings completing the works.
